Retail sales growth solid in September

Retail sales grew a solid 0.8% month on month in September - the same rate as in August, which was revised up from 0.7% previously.


JP Morgan analysis of the Retail Trades figures for April

Retail sales in April rose just 0.1%m/m (JPMorgan 0.3%, consensus 0.5%) after surging 1.0% in March (revised down from 1.1%). Making the largest positive contribution to the retail sales index was the uptick in the value of food sales (+1.4%m/m) resulting mainly from price rises owing to the prolonged and widespread drought. Excluding the food component of the index, retail sales fell 0.8%m/m in value terms.

Figures just released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show Australian retail sales rose again in April.
