Forging ahead with its expansion into China, US electronics retailer Best Buy has partnered with global technology company Wincor Nixdorf to speed the process of opening new stores.
Best Buy has contracted Wincor Nixdorf to implement its New Store Opening solution to open six new shops in China. Wincor Nixdorf completed the project in four months to ensure Best Buy’s stores were operational in time for the respective official store openings and will continue to provide ongoing support services.
Point of Sale (POS) systems were installed at the six stores, with Wincor Nixdorf providing the project management for the wireless network and IP telephony system implementation. The German-based global provider of end-to-end solutions to retailers and retail banks also provided third party product procurement and other core IT system set ups in the stores.
Wincor Nixdorf provided Best Buy with a standard IT infrastructure and allowed Best Buy to eradicate the need for multiple vendors - thus creating efficiency with a single window of contact withone IT company.
Best Buy opened its first store in Shanghai in 2007, providing Chinese consumers with a brand new consumer electronics shopping experience compared with what was available in the local market. The chain now has more than 1000 stores worldwide.
New Store Opening is designed to facilitate the entry of global retailers into new markets by providing them with a complete information and communications (IT) infrastructure that is ready for operation and integrated into the group’s overall system landscape.
“This means the retailer can concentrate fully on setting up and launching the business, while relying on Wincor Nixdorf to install the necessary IT infrastructure,” said Leow Meow Kee, Asia Pacific VP and head of services at Wincor Nixdorf.
The New Store Opening solution provides a global solution that includes consulting services, preparing the optimum IT and hardware configuration and the control of all suppliers and partners.
