The Bulky Goods Retailers Association and Deep End Services have compiled a directory of the Australian bulky goods sector.
Justin Ganly, Deep End Services MD, said the directory is the first single source of national data relating to the major homemaker centres and the largest bulky goods precincts in Australia.
Ganly said the Australian bulky goods industry has grown significantly and today represents 21 per cent of retail sales and more than 30 per cent of retail floor space.
The directory provides ownership, management, tenancies and floorspace details for 134 operating homemaker centres, confirmed information for 27 non-operating homemaker centres and details of 20 of Australia's major bulky goods precincts.
Philippa Kelly, BGRA executive director, said bulky goods retail floorspace totals more than 5 million sqm and the directory will help the property industry and governments to understand the scope and importance of the bulky goods retail market in Australia.
“It will also demonstrate the need for bulky goods to be given an appropriate and necessary place in planning hierarchies,” Kelly said.
