Adelaide store The Organic Market and Cafe has been named the Eco-Farms South Australian Organic Retailer of the Year 2009.
The award was announced at the National Organic Week (NOW), which ran from October 16 to 25 and showcased 130 organic awareness-raising events and activities around Australia.
Award nominees were required to be Australia-based and to source more than 70 per cent of their fresh horticultural product as “certified organic” or “certified organic in-conversion”.
The award was sponsored by Eco-Farms, Australia’s largest wholesaler of organic products with outlets in NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland.
Grahame Murray is the owner of The Organic Market and Café. “From an owner’s point of view it’s nice to receive the Organic Retailer Award and it’s really great for the staff; it gives them a feeling of real pride,” he said.
“These awards bring integrity to what we’re selling - shoppers know that they can trust that they are buying organic. It’s good for growers, retailers and consumers.”
Holly Vyner, General Manager of BFA, sees the awards as a natural part of the steady growth and integration of the organic industry.
“Retailers are important in driving industry growth through making organic produce accessible, educating consumers about the benefits of organic food and being a face for our Industry,” she said.
