The Body Shop combines Australian operations

The Body Shop will from this week have just one master franchise in Australia.

National franchisee The Adidem Group says from 16 August, it will take over the six-store South Australia network.

These stores had previously operated under a separate franchise agreement under the direction of John and Jenny Phillips.

After discussions between the Phillips’, and Adidem Group chairman, Graeme Wise, an agreement was reached to sell the six stores to the Adidem Group. This will see all 83 The Body Shop Australia stores operate under one banner for the first time since the ethical beauty retailer opened in Australia in 1983.

The Adidem Group has guaranteed continuity of employment for all store staff in South Australia, and that all entitlements will be maintained.

Wise said his company felt privileged to be taking ownership of the six SA stores in the condition they are in today.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to recognise the amazing contribution made by John and Jenny Phillips in setting up and operating The Body Shop in South Australia for over 25 years. They have always upheld the values of The Body Shop across all areas of their business,” he said.

The Body Shop Australia plans to open a further five stores by the end of 2011.
