New Zealand's gourmet burger chain BurgerFuel has opened its first store in Iraq.
The store is located in Sulaymaniyah in northern part of Iraq with more than 5 million inhabitants.
“This store has opened very quickly since signing the Master License Agreement with the Iraqi consortium that also own Pepsi Iraq. Getting new territories up and running fast is a major focus for BurgerFuel this year and we have already nailed our first target of getting Iraq open in January,” said Chris Mason, BurgerFuel CEO of international markets.
BurgerFuel, which serves gourmet chicken, veggie and beef burgers, is also present in other Middle East countries including at Jumeirah Beach Residence at Dubai, Dharan, Khobar and Dammam in Saudi Arabia and Mirdif City Centre in the UAE.
“We are heading into a very busy year in terms of the company’s development. The opening of our first store in Iraq is a big credit to the BurgerFuel international division. Our focus for 2012 is on opening international territories and expanding the already substantial New Zealand system,” said Josef Roberts, BurgerFuel CEO.
Listed on the NZSX, BurgerFuel reported a NZ$224,554 operating profit for six months to September 30, 2011.
BurgerFuel is also expected to open first store in Egypt later this year.
Its success in Australia has been less overwhelming.
