New online retail concept Sneaking Duck wants to shake up the online eyewear sector with a try before you buy concept.
Founded by the creators of the award-winning Shoes of Prey online shoe store, Sneaking Duck allows Sydneysiders to try out eyewear for free in the comfort of their home before home, before buying online.
For now the concept is restricted to those living in Central Sydney who can request five frames cycled to their home (or office) to try-on with outfits, or to get the opinion of significant others prior to purchase.
CEO and co-founder Mark Capps says innovations that make online retail engaging and convenient, improving on bricks and mortar experiences, are the top priority. Sneaking Duck already offers virtual try-on technology to see how our frames fit using a photo of yourself.
“To then to try your top five frames at home is the ultimate in convenience” says Capps, "Sneaking Duck is about being able to wear glasses as an accessory - glasses are the most prominent accessory you wear, so seeing yourself in them - online or online - is so important."
Sneaking Duck may expand the program across Australia later in 2012.
Launched in just October 2011, consumers have already welcomed Sneaking Duck into the optical market with open arms - and eyes.
Sneaking Duck says it offers a "well-curated range" of frames which, with coated prescription lenses fitted, cost $180 a pair. Additional frames added to the same order sell for $90 a pair.
"Frames are now an accessory, not a health fund driven purchase," said Capps. |

I'd only by a cheap set this way. I still need to touch the product and feel its quality and comfort first hand. I've been through glasses that don't fit on my head properly and never again.

This is not a new idea, Warby Parker in the US has been doing this for a while...

Great idea! Although I wonder how it will compare to http://www.visiondirect.com.au/3D-Try-On/ who have launched their 3D Try-On feature. This thing is freakishly cool. You'll need a webcam to operate it but I guarantee you'll be amazed. Can't vouch for it's accuracy but there's plenty of reviews floating around the place.
