Dymocks CEO Don Grover is to resign in February after eight years at the helm of the business.

Grover says he will be moving outside the book industry and the company says it will restructure its operations after he leaves.

"It was the right time for me and we've positioned the business well," Grover said. "I think Dymocks is in a very good position."

Dymocks comprises more than the book chain bearing its name with interests in macadamia nut farming, the Healthy Habits fast food chain and property interests as well. Post-restructure each of the company's divisions will be headed by its own MD.

Dymocks chairman John Forsyth described Grover as an exceptional leader who steered the company through some challenging times.

"Don has managed the complexities of running the diverse companies under the Dymocks Group as well as supporting initiatives such as Dymocks Children's Charities, Dymocks literary events and sponsorships," said Forsyth.

"He also led the acquisition of other businesses to increase business diversity and drive growth. This is testament to his strong commercial leadership coupled with innovative strategies, the latest of which is D Publishing. His leadership qualities and commercial acumen have been highly regarded and appreciated by the board."

Grover worked for David Jones for 25 years before leaving to form a consultancy and later take the helm of Dymocks.

Writing on the wall. Soon it will be a case of only having those quirky little out of the way establishments we see in the movies to go to, catering to niche markets and those who enjoy the experience of finding and buying a real book.
